Which brings up an interesting question -- does the end justify the means? Is it OK to lie about (or exaggerate) a problem on your own bot so that you can illegally (but graciously) give the other alliance time to fix theirs?
Last year at Battlecry our number 11 seed alliance (Battlecry does a 16 alliance tournament) made it all the way to the finals to meet the heavily favored 1 seed alliance. However, that alliance had one broken robot and no timeouts remaining. Our alliance went to the head ref and asked if we could use our time out for them, and the ref replied that since it was in the spirit of FIRST, he would allow it. One of my favorite moments of being a part of FIRST, hopefully more teams will try to do this if/when teams fall from the pyramid.
