The margin of error on the claw grab is relatively small (as it is for many other corner climbers by the way) and it is likely that many other climbs with similar corner climbers could be occasionally making contact with the second level corner upright. In rare situations we can contact level 2 while still in contact with the ground. In these cases we always legally restart our climb by ceasing to touch level 2, while remaining in contact with level 0. The following Q&A details the process for legally restarting a climb.

When we actually leave the ground the geometry of our arm makes it impossible to be touching the vertical pole in level 2; our claw is only hooked to the knuckle of the pyramid.
