Unless the robot runs into something at the end of the driving, it is likely to be inconsistent in the distance it drives, possibly enough that the discs often miss. Perhaps consider using an encoder on the drivetrain and some form of closed-loop control (PID or something as simple as "drive until the encoder reaches a certain count").
