We have had pretty good luck with using one of these (
http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0899.htm) to power an onboard RPi. It is the switching power supply that comes in the KOP for the wireless bridge but it works great for powering the RPi. Another bonus is you probable have one left over from a previous year.
