Re: Brunswick Eruption 2013

The following email blast was sent to team contacts this morning:

Aloha!

Are you ready to play Ultimate Ascent one last time? We believe this will be the best Brunswick Eruption yet. We’re preparing a handbook full of all the fine details, but in the meantime, here is some very important information. Mentors, please forward this to your students.

Schedule
Brunswick Eruption 12 will be starting early in order to accommodate a qualification schedule that allows 6 matches per team. Plan to arrive at 7AM. The full schedule is as follows:

7:00 AM Doors open
7:30 AM - 8:00 AM Practices Matches
8:00 AM - 8:25 AM Opening Ceremonies
8:25 AM - 12:40 PM Qualification Matches
12:40 PM - 1:00 PM Alliance Selection
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Lunch
2:00 PM - 2:15 PM Evil Sundae Contest
2:15 PM - 2:35 PM Awards
2:35 PM - 4:45 PM Elimination matches
4:45 PM - 5:00 PM Awards / Closing Ceremonies

Awards
This year there are two awards your team might want to prepare for in advance of the competition:

Hoku “Star” Award
Students will be asked to present an informal “five-minute pitch” to a panel of judges. The pitch should convey the various aspects of your team, in terms of sustainability and process, across the spectrum of business organization to robot design and implementation. Although the criteria for this award is broad, focus on explaining what makes your team/program special rather than trying to cram in too many details. The team whose presentation best convinces the judges of their future success will receive a sponsorship award of $1,000 dollars.*

* By entering this contest, you agree to the full rules and regulations for the Hoku Award available at http://be.raiderrobotix.org/hoku-award-rules/.

Kumu “Mentor” Award
The Kumu Award is given to a mentor or teacher who represents hard work, persistence and ruthless dedication. To be eligible, teams must submit an essay of 600 words or less explaining how their chosen mentor goes above and beyond the call of duty for their team. Nominations can be submitted by filling out the designated form and must be received by 11:59PM on November 1st. This award is dedicated to the late Mike Wade of NASA Goddard who tirelessly drove an FRC field around the east coast to grow the FIRST program and make off-season events possible.

Other awards include Food Drive Champion, Shoe Drive Champion and our infamous Evil Sundae Survivor. For details on all, please visit http://be.raiderrobotix.org/awards/.
