You can also set it to send you an email whenever you have a message. OR... if you go wayyyyyyy... down to the bottem of the index, it will also tell you if you have a new message.
other than that, I'm sure brandon could do something... but when you view the site in 800x600 the nav bar is pretty full, so it might be hard to cram in a notice and still keep the nav bar on one line.
