Woodie
always says something great during his speeches. I hope that people are really listening - I know sometimes, students can tune out.
During the FIRST founder's reception, he said something great about the culture we're in. It was not a recorded event, but I'll do what I can to do his words justice.
Woodie spoke briefly about where he grew up - around the same place as the Duck Dynasty guys. He knew one of them. They went to the same university. On the show, this man is
pretending to be dumb for views and money. What does that say about our culture? How does being intentionally ignorant help teach our kids? Instead of Duck Dynasty, we need FIRST Dynasty. Show the world how doors open when you apply yourself to something you're passionate about. Put smart people on a stage and let them be celebrated, and let kids look up to that. That's what we're really going for here.
...Something like that.
P.S. If you're going to quote him -- please spell his name correctly. W-o-o-d-i-e.

^ There's some good background as well, in case you didn't know his story outside of FIRST.
