Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying above, but the beauty of the constant force spring is that it supplies the rated force over the full range of extension. This is unlike other extension springs and bungees which provide maximum load at maximum extension.
You also need to be very careful if you are installing them with any nominal extension at all.
