We have done some math and ordered a few compression springs from mcmaster to try them out. We are using a lead screw to compress them quickly with a cim and a gearbox, then a release trigger to release the energy. If this doesn't work we will go straight to surgical tube. The way the mechanism works is in a sense there are 2 moving parts the spring is compressed against the plunger then the plunger is released with the compression spring energy being exerted on the plunger propelling it forward.
