Re: Safety Captain purpose?
Our Safety Captains are in charge of maintaining safe practices in everything we do. They do workshop training on all of the machines. They do safety briefings 2-3 times per season to the whole team. They schedule First Aid and other Safety training for the team. They maintain our safety equipment (glasses, hearing protection, face protection, lifting belts, etc etc)
It is their job to take incident reports if an accident occurs.
They keep the team safe.
At events they continue to be the eyes of our safety program. They look for hazards that may arise and try to head off any issues.
They do talk to judges but we want them to be a vital and integral part of the team. They are really important to us.
Often in the heat of competition, the pit crew will have to move quickly and sometimes they may not have the best judgement when they are rushed. The safety captain is there to put them back in a safe situation and remind them about what they are doing.
