Re: Mecanum Simulator

Not to sound sarcastic, but the best way to practice driving a mecanum base is to use a mecanum base. Each different mecanum base drives differently, depending on the circumstances of the way it is built. We have two stark contrasts. Our robot this year has a seamlessly balanced mecanum base, and handles perfectly in accordance with what we want. However, last year our base was off a couple hundredths with each wheel, and we could slightly rock the robot. These handle very differently, even though they are both very drive-able and quick.

So my advice, if you're worried about driver practice with a mecanum base, get it done and practice as extensively as you can. But I honestly think mecanum is the easiest drive base to drive, simply because it has the same characteristics as some video games. I would not worry about practice with the base. I would worry about practice with mechanisms.
