Re: Types of Judges at Events?

Look for blue polos. Judges will be wearing blue polos and roving the pits Friday and Saturday. They will be introduced at opening ceremonies on Thursday so you will know exactly what I mean.

They usually travel in pairs but can sometimes be seen alone in the wild.

Different judges will want to talk about different things. As a rookie, you may or may not have separate areas of the team dedicated to mechanical and controls and outreach. We try to keep 1 or more representatives around the pit for each of those areas (some students overlap) at all times.

Don't be afraid to direct the question to someone else in the pit (unless they are asking about your specific experiences on the team or something). However, judges really want to talk to the students, not the adults.

You will usually be visited by at least a set of "technical" (robot) judges and a set of "outreach" or "nontechnical" (team and team activities) judges.

There are also green polos out and about. Those are the safety advisers and will want to talk to your safety captain.
