ALL BELTS ALLOWED!
According to the Yahoo! forum, team update #2 will change the additional materials list to read "Belt -- Any size, any length"! This means that any type of belt, conveyor, timing, leather, asteroid (ok, maybe not), etc., can be used anywhere. This will make wheel design really interesting.
