A robot 56" long and only 1" wide would exceed the 112" maximum frame perimeter limit by 2". And would fall in it's face or back probably immediately without added human or other mechanical support.
IMHO...Read the rules, and read them again, then attempt to work within both the spirit and the letter of said game rules. Spend less time on why the rules "seem unfair" to you personally. The rules (in the published rulebook), are your friend, not your enemy. (Unless your mission is to intentionally, or unintentionally violate them, or you do not study them, and therefore, do not even know them). In that case...You can be your own worlds worst enemy.
Understand first, that the GDC formulated each and every rule for a very good reason (some game specific, many safety related)....Even if we do not know the actual true reason behind each and every one, they are the rules currently in effect. Penalties are the result of (intentional or unintentional), violation.
