"Wait, we can't pick them?"
"Oh, well, then we pick XXXX instead."

*scribble some stuff on a paper* "31.4!"
"Oh, really? That's not a valid team number!?"
*scribble more stuff on the same piece of paper*
"XXXX!"

"Team XXXX, we need backup! Do you accept your mission?"

"Team XXXX accepts on the condition that we all go to Taco Bell later."

"Team XXXX accepts, because why not!"

"Yes please!"

"Hm.... [long pause] YES."

Or my favorite:
"Yep." *walk over to new alliance partner(s) awkwardly*
