I noticed this too, but I'm not so sure that being nice to the drivers is the way for every team to succeed. I've seen some of the best coaches in FRC put enormous pressure on their drivers (even going as far as cussing them out), and still get good results. When I coached, I tried to be generally nice to my drivers, but definitely yelled at them when they were doing something wrong. When I drove, I definitely appreciated when my coach told me I was doing something wrong, as I basically knew when I was doing something right. But I think you're right about calmness, coaches (or drivers) that flip out under pressure generally don't do well.
Of course, knowing that that match would be recorded and put on the internet might have effected how the coach was coaching.
