You don't
need the gyro for Mecanum. We used it just fine without it this year. It is true that it would give a better experience but it totally is extra something to do if you have the time (and money).
It is something we have planned on adding every year never gotten it done. Now our switch to RobotC might make it harder to get to it this year.
