I am pretty sure we had a bit more of both of those on our drive this year and even under extreme tension they would still ratchet. If you need a wider pulley I suggest http://www.vexrobotics.com/htdversapulley.html you can add slices to increase with width.

With two 9mm belts I think we'll be okay as long as we get the tension right.
