They existed before FRC uses. "In the wild", I believe the Chiapua or Atwood motor (see "CIM motor" in the FRC Dictionary) is actually used in RV jacks to drive them downwards.
Wonder how much business has increased for the company that makes them since FRC opened up the number of CIMs to 4/robot back in '05...
