R8 ROBOT parts shall not be made from hazardous materials, be unsafe, cause an unsafe condition, or interfere with the operation
of other ROBOTS.
If you make sure that the Vaseline can not ever contact the ARENA or the GAME PIECES then it might be ok. But you need to ask the Q&A for an official ruling.
