Hi Doug - If you ever do manage to get a USB camera working with the C++ dashboard please update this thread. Our experience over the last few days mirrors yours.

Our decision on how to proceed was helped this afternoon by the discovery of several Axis cameras hiding on a top shelf. We had no problems getting the IP cameras working with the C++ dashboard, so that is how we will be proceeding.

In the future I would much prefer using a $30 USB camera though.
