That is a brilliant idea.
In terms of other advice, have you ever seen the
sponsor list for 359, the Hawaiian Kids? It may just be a Hawaii thing, but they clearly show that the shotgun method of asking everyone and their brother for a sponsorship and just see what you get back seems to work well.
