Considering that this was your first year and you had to learn MAX from scratch, I commend you.

The responses that you have gotten about your animation's quality are not appropriate even if they do have some truth to them. Compared to some animations I saw, yours was great. But compared to others I've seen, it wasn't.

The issue is not really "OMG THAT SUCKED! WHY DID THEY WIN?". Because it didn't suck. It just didn't meet the requirements. No where in the animation did you say what FIRST meant to you. Truthfully using the point scale I would give you 20 for creativity, 5 for content, and 5 for technical execution. But don't be upset about that. For your first year thats a valid attempt.

The reason people are really upset is not because of YOUR animation, but because of the judging system Autodesk used. One misunderstanding you seem to have is that you won out of fairness. That isn't the case. I doubt that there were any teams that won out of fairness. Don't get all high and mighty saying 'there must have been a reason we won'. Because there was no reason for ANYONE to win. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this years animation competition was a joke and a waste of the weeks we spent working on our animations.

The only people who will get a fair try will be not the teams who applied or won regionals, but the teams who signed up for nationals, where word is, there will be a real judging system.

Frankly I am horrified by the lack of caring and consideration shown toward the animations this year. And that is why some teams feel strongly against you winning.
