Gravity is actually well known for its reliability. It just doesn't have a good power to weight ratio. And, of course, it depends on keeping the wheels the right way down.

Looks like the claw takes 16ish frames to fall, which is slightly faster than gravity alone for 78 inches. So yeah, the have something on there to help it along.
