Not that St. Louis is a particularly attractive, either. Actually, downtown Detroit is far less pothole-ridden than St. Louis, in my experience.
You're right that there isn't much we can do, even with the most pointed arguments against the new format. I'd like to see a long-term plan explaining
why FIRST is going to this new format. I know about the super-regional format, but it's be nice to see a more defined year-to-year plan for the competition, not just the venues.
