I don't know the city at all, is it possible that there are simply no viable places to stay within that region?
In our case as we began looking at farther and farther venues we were encountering public transit times of an hour or more, so we decided to rent vehicles for transport. Once that decision was made we realized that allowing for 30 minutes of driving opens up a
much larger region than looking for accommodations within the same timeframe reachable by public transit.
We initially looked at renting a 5000 square foot mansion on a riverfront. I am still a little disappointed that one didn't work out
