Pine Crest School is seeking innovative, collaborative individuals to develop a makerspace. The position involves maintaining, coordinating and facilitating a Pine Crest iLab for Grades 8-12 on the Fort Lauderdale campus. The ideal candidate has exemplary teaching skills, a passion for helping students to make ideas tangible, and an enthusiasm for out-of-the-box ideas.
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver project based learning activities that focus on the integration of learning technologies, engineering and a connection to real-world problems.
Assist faculty members to create and deliver project based learning activities.
Provide training opportunities for teachers on how to use the resources in the iLab.
Model lessons in the iLab for teachers to observe.
Work directly with faculty members to organize, develop and facilitate competition teams such as robotics and Science Olympiad.
Develop additional opportunities for students to enter academic competitions.
Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new educational technologies and tools that may be incorporate into the iLab.
Work with students and faculty members to help them achieve their project visions.
Run safety training for all who are in the iLab; monitor that safety is practiced at all times.
Help students acquire skills with tools, tool safety, and other aspects of hands-on fabrication.
Maintain and instruct usage of equipment in iLab – examples include: 3d printers, drill press, jig saw, CNC routers (Laser cutting), etc
Provide opportunities for students and faculty to use materials such as: Arduino, and Raspberry Pi to enhance projects.
Track use of consumable materials, re-order as needed.
Help build enthusiasm among students in project based learning activities
Provide opportunities for students to implement, test, and deploy a solution considering real-world constraints
Create opportunities for students to think critically, explore, investigate, and engage as problem solvers
Guide students from play to purpose
Encourage students to pursue their passions through hands-on exploration
Cooperate with other instructional leaders to integrate use of iLab
Collaborate with the Computer Science Department Chair to create a competitive Robotics Team in grades 5-12.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Educational Design and Innovation, Media Specialists, Director of Educational Technology, and Computer Science Department Chair
