I would say that depends on the timing. If you're 10 minutes from queuing for another match or in the finals and everything is working than I'd usually say leave it. If it's mid August then yea have at it. With what we need the code to do and for how long it's not always smart to change a stable iteration. If it's not critical that the robot be working for a while then optimization should obviously be encouraged. If in the middle of competition however I wouldn't be making major changes to algorithms, structure, or data flow etc etc.
