Re: Mentor experience
I'm a comp sci guy with above average DIY experience.
I got involved with my oldest son as mentor for the FTC Hangin' Around game. I had no experience but still had the most mechanical experience on the team.
A few years later my younger son got involved with his high school robotics club immediately after starting high school. I went to a parent meeting, started showing up at the builds and the next thing I know I'm sucked in. I primarily assist with design, mechanical and programming guidence ("uh, physics doesn't work like that", etc.), tool use tips, and some team orginzation duties. It's been a blast.
