Maybe even put 971 above them due to the wicked fast can grabbers. But they definitely go above the other California teams.

And Carver wasn't that weak. 971, 1986, 368 were some of the best there was.

That being said, a ton of CA teams were incredible this year, and I don't mean to put 1671 down at all, they were seriously good. Hell, they won a world championship. 701, 2085, 3476, 1538, 399, 696, 1323- all incredible. I can't even name all the incredible CA teams. The list of CA teams outside my top 5 includes a World Champion, an Einstein Quarterfinalist, a Division Finalist, and multiple robots picked in their division at worlds.
What comes into my consideration is consistency. 971 has some problems this season. They ironed out most of them, but they were still plagued on at Champs. 1671 was very consistent at both CVR and Sac, and returned to that level in elims at Newton after they returned their mechanism to it original config. (Remember that 1671 was picked to qualify 2nd in Newton and that was every bit legit when we analyzed it.) On that basis of that kind of direct personal observation they outperformed both 971 and 973. That puts them above 1717 which is below 971.

I brought in 2085 and 701 because they had outperformed 971 at regionals, but it's probably true that 971 lifted their game more at Champs. On the other hand 701 ranked 6th in Curie while 1717 was 5th in Carver. That's pretty much a toss up.
