They do get better with practice. Don't use heavy (more than 24#) paper. Use a sharp cutting blade for the paper circle. Keep the paper centered on the first press, and press hard every step, including the first when all you think you're doing is folding paper and plastic film. I did about 75% on the HP buttons, after not having used it in at least two years. When I used it several times a year, I was well over 90%. People who use them regularly approach 100%.

Oh, and if you want them to last more than a year or two, use acid-free paper.
