I'm not gonna comment on pros/cons of hex...
But banebots seems to have relaunched their website with some new products including colson hubs with both 3/8 and 1/2 keyed shafts. (

They will even install them if you order the wheels that way. Pricing isn't bad. No comments on availability or quality though, haven't ordered any yet.
