If you think about it, a lot of the consecutive numbered teams (or close to consecutive numbered) can be subtracted in pairs to form small numbers like 1 or 2, so you just keep adding or subtracting the differences of pairs until you hit your target.

Example: 5717 - 5716 + 5715 - 5714 + 5713 - 5712
Rewrite as: (5717 - 5716) + (5715 - 5714) + (5713 - 5712)
Simplifies to: 1 + 1 + 1
