However long our robot takes to perform the tasks, it is certain to be two seconds more than we'd like it to take........

I'm the strategy mentor on the team and my job is so easy with questions like this...

Last night, to the team prototyping climbers, I said: "I'd like the robot to be able to do the full climb in under two seconds." They looked at me as if I were nuts. (Okay, no argument there.) I responded, "If you can do it even faster, that would be better."

To the team prototyping the shooter: "See if you can get a shooter to release the ball the instant the computer's targeting system lines up with the target."

To the team looking at ways to get through the Sally Port, Portcullis, Drawbridge and Cheval de Frise, "We like to be able to drive right through these things as if they weren't there - no pauses." A response, "How do we do that?" Me: "I dunno, you are the engineers, not me. I'm just a strategy guy. Faster is better."

The fact of the matter is, almost no matter how quickly you are able to get your robot to accomplish a task, there is always a faster way to do it.... We won't know just how quickly we can accomplish some of these tasks until our first district competition - or even later.
