Absolutely.
We tell our students that the best place to start with a design is by understanding what has worked well in the past and adapting for the current task. Success in FRC isn't about over-engineering the perfect robot. It's about getting something operating quickly, practicing with it, and continually iterating to make it better. Researching what's worked well in the past gets you through the prototyping stage that much more quickly.
