While a mechanical linkage between the two to keep them in sync would be even better, your plan sounds good. Do some stress testing before bagging (or at least before competition) to determine how closely one arm follows the other; you may have to limit the top speed or acceleration of the master through all or part of the raise/lower cycle to stay in adequate sync.
