I'll let Austin answer the first two questions,

but our team uses these in a few places. Basically you treat it like a limit switch and can plug it into any DIO port. As the magnet crosses the black square in the CAD file it triggers. We sell a .5" diameter magnet but you can basically use any magnet you want.
