FIRST Postcards Project - Israel Regional 2016

As my team is leading the media of FIRST in Israel, we initiated the Postcard Project, which also brought us the Imagery Award at this year's regional (yay!)

The term Postcard is taken from music competitions or so (like the Eurovision Song Contest) where a short video presenting the act/artist is being shown right before the performance begins. We decided to go for the same in our regional, presenting a video about one out of the six teams on the field, right before a match begins.

The project began in mid-December during a meeting with FIRST Israel. Then we went on to produce a Pilot featuring our team and MA Robotics #5951, a rookie team we've been mentoring throughout the year.

We have published the pilot along with a PDF describing the technical and content requirements: each team had to choose two representatives to present themselves, tell us about what's so special about them, how the build season went, what they are looking for in the competition, etc. Teams were asked to send us the raw material as we would put it all together for the final outcome. The deadline was set to mid-February (three weeks before the regional) but we accepted material from teams afterwards of course.

Out of 62 teams in Israel, we have managed to contact 47, get material from 36 and out of these a total of 30 postcards (some teams had insufficient material and could not send us more) were produced and presented successfully during the Israel Regional, increasing excitement among team members and even head mentors.

Check out this playlist featuring all 30 postcards!

We were honored to meet Paul Lazarus during the regional and the meeting with him might take this project all the way to the FIRST Championship in a different direction, but we are waiting to see what will happen. We are delighted to spread this project among teams outside Israel.
