Nope, typically events run at high schools in Michigan have 2 gymnasiums, the main gym is used for the field, the auxilary gym for the pits (though there are exceptions to this, as some schools use other spaces for pits). The biggest issue is finding venues with enough seating (FiM reccomends ~1500 seats).

True, but I was accounting for those in my $15k - $8k estimate (I'm on the planning comittee for our local district so I can only speak for our costs, but my understanding is that estimate is comparable to other districts in the state). It also does not include the cost of the field as those costs are covered by FiM. I could dig up our event budget from last year if you'd like.
