So you willingly slowed down your robot so you could use the gyro? Im just trying to say that it's not worth it. Sure it can probably be more accurate then dead reconing, but not more accurate enough to matter. To use it would have slowed down the time it took my team's robot to make it to the top (we can turn faster then the gyro's limit) so we dropped it from our autonomous design.
Its my opinion that the gyro is only useful when something unexpected happens. When something unexpected happens a gyro isn't usually enough to get you back on course. A gyro and a forward speed indicator of some sort would be a competely different sotry, but a gyro by itself is of limited usefulness.
Feel free to argue with me, these are just my opinions.
