I was always under the impression that the first use of duct tape was for heating/cooling ducts (hence the duct tape). Then again, I've also heard that someone did a study on how efficient duct tape was for use with heating/cooling ducts and found it didn't work. Personally I'm much more of a cable tie fan (not barlocks!) anyway...
