This is why FIRST is telling all of the sites to test out connectivity now. My suggestion is to work with the local IT admin guy (bring them chocolate) now instead of trying to circumvent them.

Even if they don't block them, please check your school's Acceptable Use Policy. Our school does everything they can to block them (hell, they block direct-ip connections), but that wouldn't stop me from setting up a domain name and a VPS. It still violates our school's AUP, however, and I could lose network privileges if I did.
