NI and the impending death of the Silverlight plugin

Can anyone speak to a timeframe when National Instruments will provide a new configuration interface on the RoboRIO?

Google has already removed support from Chrome for the plugin architecture (NPAPI) required for Silverlight. Mozilla is about to do the same for Firefox with the upcoming release 52. Microsoft's Edge browser has never supported that interface.

Someone at NI promised they are working on a replacement. But that was September, 2015, and here we are 16 months later, still looking at a Silverlight interface. This is not reassuring.

Teaching our students to change under-hood browser preference settings to turn on NSAPI is a piss-poor engineering practice. Hijinks to keep an older browser around just for RoboRIO config is even worse. So what gives, folks?
