Your problem here is definitely the speed of the wheels. Lots of high-grip style wheels will just fail at high speeds even if they work at lower speeds. 6000 RPM is way too fast for a roller claw style pickup of a non-spherical game piece over a short distance.
I found the blue wheels worked better at gear pickup, but if they spin against the gear while it is held stationary they'll start to shed blue rubber shavings. This is at about 500 RPM.
