Back in the day (before my time mostly) New England was known for tough driving, rough play and brutal defense (if I remember right 131 in 2000 is one of the more famous ones?) As the average level of play has grown over the last 5 years or so it has gone away, but many of the older teams in NE still play some fantastic defense when they have to. 2014 NE champs is a great example, all 60 teams at the event were able to play at least good defense and the event was amazing. Even today there's still a hint of it because I see way more second round picks playing tough defense in New England than I do at other events on average.

I'm sure someone who's been around longer than me can provide some more examples.
