Use Apache if you're going the personal webserver route. There's even a mod_frontpage if you really want it.
However, I recommend that you get webhosting from people who dedicate servers to that one purpose. They'll have better connections and bandwidth for webserving; in addition, you don't have to worry about someone shutting off your computer or using it to play games, etc. *grin*
