What exactly are you calling "zip ties"? In Chicago, the ties at grocery stores that have a piece of wire between two pieces of tape are called "zip ties". If this is what you are referring to, I would recommend against using them due to the danger of having that wire find it's way into electronics and motors. If you are using nylon wire ties or TyWrap brand ties than have fun, we use them for just about everything including wire management.
