Thanks goodness for safety factors...

I am really surprised at how well the drill transmissions must tolerate overloading conditions.

The gearbox that you see above puts something like 3-5 times the input torque into the transmissions than the drill motor hooked directly.

It is very surprising that these drills are designed with that much safety margin.

As long as the safety factor stays above 1 that is all you need.
