Our team has an unofficial design metric - the students and engineers like to think of the drivers as lab animals that we're going to have to train. So we rate a design on how many "pellets" it takes.
So if B.F. Skinner needs his monkey to both jump and screech at the same time, that requires that he train the monkey with two monkey pellets. Similarly, if a design requires that a driver do two things at once (e.g. go forward and steer, or time something exactly right while driving), that's considered a "two pellet task", and is to be avoided, simply because there are twice as many things that a driver can screw up on. Just from the picture, is seems like you might have a two pellet gripper there.
So... make sure you have a good driver
BTW - it does look like a solid gripper - once you have ahold of that goal, ain't nobody taking it from you.
