I just did a little research (with the help of
www.archive.org) and it appears that FIRST has added new events each year since 1996. It's even easier to see that they've added 3 new events (Detroit Regional, Colorado Regional, & Palmetto Regional) from the 2003 season to the 2004 season. In addition, FIRST has increased the capacity of at least 5 events most notably the Canadian Regional by more than 20 teams. Since there has been constant growth and no stagnation or retraction of events, I don't think there's any reason to believe that FIRST won't be expanding by a couple events next year.
